What is MCC?
MCC is free Chess Club dedicated to promotion, education and mentorship in the game of chess for people in Mumbai and surrounding areas. Currently, MCC is the only FREE and ACTIVE Chess Club in Mumbai! MCC has been in continuous operation since it's founding in 2015. It was originally created on chess.com, through which it spread throughout Mumbai. MCC has been organising meetings for its members to play against each other on a regular basis. Recently, a new ladder system was tested for classical games played among the members. After being tested for a duration of more than couple of weeks and seeing it's sheer success, this ladder system has been implemented for Rapid games as well. And we are welcoming everyone who want to improve their Chess!
Below is what the founder, Mr. Manoj Rajiwadekar had to say about the initial days.
"This was started approximately 2 years back. Two years back, one fine day I was searching Google for Chess clubs in Mumbai as I was fedup with playing against computer. To my surprise, Google turned up with no result over query "Chess Clubs in Mumbai". After surfing many sites, I came across a group who used to meet at Ghatkopar or Bandra. But they used to meet occasionally. So, I went there for a meet up or two. But, I needed a club where people will meet on a regular basis. Then I came in contact with a member of that group. We met at MHB Colony, Borivali, and played a few games. We decided to create a WhatsApp group for members of North Mumbai Chess players. Later, I came in contact with other players and we started playing at Chintamani garden. But people in that garden started opposing us. So we shifted to a restaurant, Tea Pea at Borivali. But it was surely not a suitable place to form a Chess Club. So we shifted to Savarkar Park. But due to improper sitting arrangements we decided to shift somewhere else. Now, we play at Van Bihar garden with good sitting arrangements and proper permission from authorities. But I felt that we need more players to play against each other. So I created a FaceBook page and a Chess.com group (which is a paid feature there). Soon, this idea went viral and people from entire Mumbai started responding! I didn't want to restrict this club to North Mumbai alone, so I named this club as "Mumbai Chess Club". Now we have people coming from Vasai-Virar to Dombivali and KoparKhairane etc. From the day of creation till today the group has been the only free Chess Club in Mumbai! How to Join?
If you are a resident of Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban District, Thane/Palghar district, you are eligible to join MCC. However, if you are from non of the above areas and still want to make it to the meetups held at Mumbai, you are most welcome! To join just join our Chess.com group by clicking here. And once done, in the notes section, leave your Mobile Number which has active WhatsApp. We will then add you to our WhatsApp group which serve as a vital mode of communication among members! Or you can email your mobile number to the email I'd: (email here) and we will add you in no time. Once you've been added, you will be notified soon after.
